Kastrup Airport
When someone speaks of Copenhagen Airport, they might be referring to either the former Kastrup Airport or to the Roskilde Airport. If it is Kastrup Airport that is being talked about, the formal name of this Copenhagen Airport is actually Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup. It gets its name from its location within Kastrup in Tamby municipality. This Copenhagen Airport is a very busy airport, since it is able to serve around 50,000 travelers a day at present. It was actually able to serve 20.9 million passengers back in 2006 alone. Interestingly, Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup also serves Malmo, Sweden as well (though its main priority is the Copenhagen territory in Denmark.) Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup, is ranked the 17th busiest airport in Europe and can accommodate 108 aircraft.
Roskilde Airport
The other Copenhagen Airport is the Roskilde Airport whose former formal name was Copenhagen Airport, Roskilde. Roskilde Airport is the sole relief airport in Copenhagen (since the other two relief airports were never built.) This Copenhagen Airport is owned and run by the same owner of Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (also called Kastrup Airport.) Most of the time, Roskilde Airport is used for training flight services, and tour and taxi services – though it can also accommodate international passengers because it has customs and immigration facilities as well. One disadvantage that Roskilde Airport has to contend with is the lack of sufficient bus services serving it (probably due to the lower passenger traffic at this Copenhagen Airport compared to Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup.) Roskilde Airport may expand its services soon.
