Christiania is the famous oasis and unofficial number one tourist attraction of Copenhagen. Founded in the 1970's by idealistic hippies wanting a free city, Christiania has been known all over the world as a place of free hash and free spirits. Since Pusher Street was closed down in 2004 the selling of the forbidden tobacco cannot be viewed as openly as then, but the free city still fight for their right to exist in Copenhagen. But Christiania is much more than just the hash – it has become such a popular recreational area due to its unlimited amount of cultural venues – here you can see plays and dance shows, experience skateboard tournaments, enjoy deliciously well- made vegetarian meals and experience great big concerts as well as smaller acts trying it on. But for a day of relaxation, and a look in to alternative architecture, Christiania is perfect as well!
